we are not resting on our past
At SCA we constantly strive for the smallest footprint possible. It's part of our culture and a key element of the Tork Brand. We pride ourselves on doing the right thing, every day. So what are we doing to improve our already impressive dedication to the environment?
- We increased our system-wide post-consumer fiber usage to over 50%. We will use over 400,000 tons of post-consumer waste to make our high quality Tork products this year.
- We have a global target of 15% reduction in water usage by the end of 2010 compared to 2005
- We started generating renewable energy with photovoltaic (solar) panels on the roof of the Service Excellence Center in Neenah, Wisconsin in February 2008.
- We completed building our new tissue machine in Barton, Alabama which utilizes state-of-the-art deinking capabilities
- Many of our facilities have been certified under the ISO 14001 environmental management standard, which presents a structured approach to setting environmental objectives and targets and to establishing and monitoring operational controls. The remaining facilities will be certified early this year.
- Our Neenah, Wisconsin Service Excellence Center continues to test concepts and technologies to lighten our environmental footprint. We’ve replaced asphalt walkways with a recycled glass product, which are permeable and allow rainwater to filter through to the water table instead of as runoff into sewers. We’re also using a prairie restoration project to use native perennial plants, which will absorb water runoff and replaces turf surfaces which required mowing and upkeep.
