SCA Joins Tornado Disaster Relief Efforts in Alabama with Financial and Product Donations to American Red Cross

$25,000 Initial Donation, Dollar-for-Dollar Employee Matching Program and Product Donations

BARTON, Ala. – SCA, a global hygiene and paper company with a manufacturing facility in Cherokee at the Barton Industrial Park, has taken immediate action to support American Red Cross relief efforts following the devastating tornadoes in the United States. SCA initially donated $25,000 to the American Red Cross. In addition, SCA has implemented an employee donation program, where the company will match all employee donations to the American Red Cross. SCA employees from across the U.S., Mexico and Canada have been invited to donate and earn a dollar-for-dollar match from the company to provide Red Cross services to people affected throughout Alabama.  The company has nearly 500 employees in the region that produce Tork® towel, tissue and napkins products.

"This recent outbreak of tornadoes resulted in an unimaginable amount of damage, and our own employees have been impacted," said Don Lewis, president, SCA Tissue North America. "Our hearts go out to the victims and their families, and we’re proud to be working with the American Red Cross as they take care of people on the ground in Alabama with disaster relief efforts.”

SCA is also working with American Red Cross headquarters to coordinate delivery of the company’s Tork® paper towels, wipers and bath tissue and TENA® incontinence care products to the region. “The TENA® bladder control products have already arrived in the region and were directed to nursing homes in need of these essential products,” said Lewis.

The American Red Cross has set up 16 shelters across Alabama with over 700 overnight stays, as well as mobile kitchens serving 20,000 meals per day. Dozens of emergency response vehicles were deployed immediately following the tornadoes, and mental health professionals are also present to provide support for families dealing with the loss of loved ones.

SCA employees from the Barton, Ala. plant have been volunteering in the hardest hit areas and have coordinated local collections to provide immediate support for the areas dealing with recovery closest to the facility.
